Day 3 began with this awesome breakfast. Okay so starting from the bottom left and working clockwise.
Pumpkin, a biscuit, plantain, whole wheat dumpling, green banana, regular dumpling, white yam and a yellow yam. In the middle you will notice what looks like eggs, that is what is called the Akee fruit. When you crack it open it has a yellow fruit inside. Right above the tomato, you see a piece of salt fish. Then you mix the fish and fruit with those vegetables, which are a little spicy. It was pretty darn good. I'm not a fish lover, but I even liked that. Likes: yams, Akee and salt fish and pumpkin. Dislikes: whole wheat dumpling (had the texture of setting cement) and green banana! Overall, it was pretty good. This day was definitely the day we ate the best.
So after breakfast we bumped into the riverboat captains (I'll introduce them in a minute) and then we caught a cab and it to us to this spot where we loaded up on these awesome hand made, bamboo rafts.
To the left is Captain Rebbo (Re-Bow-as in bow and arrow) and to the right is Captain Eric. Captain Eric sang to us a good portion of the time. My last video didn't work very well, but I will try to upload one of him singing Redemption Song. It was a very stirring, peaceful moment!
Pit stop #1. We pulled up to a little outcropping of rocks and then we jumped into the river. We jumped down about 15 feet and the water was so deep I didn't even touch the bottom!
This little place was called Lover's Lane. It was so pretty!
This was so, so very amazing. The trip took us right through the mountains and ended up in the ocean. It was so incredible. We saw lots of birds and the trees and forestry was amazing. So peaceful!
This is pitstop #2. As we came around one bend in the river, there on the beach was a little shack and two little women. So we decided since it was lunchtime we would eat a bit. It was A-MAZ-ING! Hands down the best food I had while I was there. Jerk chicken, rice and peas (which is really rice made with coconut milk and red beans), plantains, veggies, dumplings. SO, SO GOOD!
This is just before we boarded the rafts again. So pretty!
Guess what? He even let me steer for a while! It was fun. Not nearly as slippery as I thought it would be!
Here's Cris! I thought she looked like our little river pirate! I just love her!
Captain Eric pulled over to the side and picked these Apple Rose Blossoms. Very pretty.
To smile or not to smile...
I guess we liked these pictures! This was when we were finally back with our feet on land. So incredible. Truly an experience I hope everyone can have.
Headed back to the hotel I found true love. My didn't wake him though or turn him into a prince, so I guess I'll just keep waiting. Although on that line, one man did tell me that he needed a little cream for his coffee... He was very black and I am very white... clever.
So the rest of this day we just took pretty easy. Kind of just wandered and took pictures. I got carried away with the flowers, but they are beautiful!
We stayed in Port Antonio, so obviously there is some sort of Marina. This was less than 2 blocks from our hotel.
Forget me nots
We love each other!
And the winner of most fabulous, awkward moment in Jamaica goes to my friend Dwayne. So as I was taking a 1000 pictures of flowers this fellow approached me and said hi. To which I replied hi as well and we did the common introductory things people do. Up to this point things were pretty normal and then I asked what he does for work. "I'm a barber. I cut hair" he replied, followed by an appraisal of my eyebrows, "and do eyebrows." Well, that was enough awkward for me, so I politely excused myself. We were still in the same area and I guess we looked like we needed a group picture so Dwayne volunteered to take one for us. Apparently I did not anticipate the price would be a few pictures with just me afterward. Now, if you'll notice my face in this picture, it is because when he stood next to me to take my picture he slyly reached over and took my hand. This picture could not have captured my reaction any better. AWESOME!!!
And that wraps up day 3.
Day 4 was mostly spent getting to the other side of the island via public transportation.
Hopefully I'll get the rest up pretty quick!

Oh, sis!!! Looks like SOOO much fun. I love the pictures. Such memories. xoxox
ReplyDeleteI really like this post too! I wish that you would have brought Dwayne home! Just kidding. It looks like you had a great time. Maybe I will get to go with you next time! Love ya
